Nearly 1,600 miles (2,575 kilometers) apart, the cities of El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, have been united in grief and pain by a pair of shootings that left more than 30 people dead.
In the Texas border city, a shooter who opened fire at a Walmart store left 22 people dead and some two dozen injured. Hours later, at an entertainment district in Ohio, another shooter killed nine people and injured at least 27 others.
