Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday that the United States should do “everything we can” to protect Taiwan, because the island nation’s economy plays a key role in the supply chains of a variety of American industries.

“The task for the United States is to protect the things that matter to Americans. And make no mistake about it, the business and industry that sit on the island of Taiwan—which should be recognized as a sovereign nation—is essential to American commerce,” Pompeo told Fox News “America Reports“ co-anchor, Sandra Smith.
