GARDEN CITY, N.Y.—President Donald Trump on Aug. 14 is expected to announce record drops in violent crime nationwide since he took office, during a visit to a police academy in Nassau County, a key midterm battleground.
Newly sworn-in Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel will join the president for the release of the FBI’s 2025 Crime Statistics Report. The report touts that Trump’s first year back in the White House saw the largest year-to-year decrease in violent crime on record.
“President Trump promised to make America safe again,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis said in a statement, adding that the data prove he has done just that.
“President Trump will always stand with our law enforcement officers and deliver safer American neighborhoods.”
Across the country, murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased by an estimated 18.1 percent in 2025, the White House said. Rape dropped an estimated 7.6 percent, robbery is down an estimated 18.5 percent, and aggravated assault fell by an estimated 7.2 percent.
Burglary dropped by 15.8 percent, larceny-theft by 9.8 percent, and car theft by 22.7 percent, according to the White House.
The president will be joined by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a Republican running against New York Gov. Kathy Hochul in the gubernatorial election. Trump has criticized the governor over the state’s bail-reform laws, often calling them “cashless bail,” arguing they have increased crime.
Republican nominee Jeanine Driscoll, who is running against Democrat Congresswoman Laura Gillen in New York’s 4th Congressional District, will also be at the rally.
Last month, Trump endorsed Driscoll, saying in a Truth Social post that she will “work tirelessly to Safeguard our Elections, Keep our Border Secure, Stop Migrant Crime, Ensure Law and Order.”
