WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump joined First Lady Melania Trump for the premiere of her new documentary “Melania” on Jan. 29 at the Trump-Kennedy Center in Washington.
The film chronicles Melania Trump’s experiences during the 20 days leading up to her husband’s presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025.
“I saw it for the first time two nights ago. I loved it,” the president said of the movie. “It really brings back a glamor that you just don’t see anymore. Our country can use a little bit of that.”
The couple spoke with reporters as they walked down a black carpet, chosen to reflect the film’s black-and-white branding, before the exclusive screening.
Melania Trump described the movie as “beautiful“ and ”emotional.”
“I’m very proud of the film,” she said.
The movie, she explained, chronicles her journey from private citizen to first lady for the second time.
“The schedule was very intense. They followed me from morning till evening.”
She noted that the film captured many moments, including planning for the inauguration, managing her business and philanthropic work, caring for the family, moving to the White House, establishing the East Wing, and hiring staff.
During the event, Trump praised his wife, noting that viewers will learn more about the first lady by watching the film.
“She’s a very smart person, very influential person, and she cares about the country, loves the country,” he said. “I think you’re going to love it.”
“Melania” will open in theaters nationwide on Jan. 30, with international screenings beginning the same day.
“They will see a lot of emotion, fashion, grief, sadness, celebration, and love. So that’s the message for the viewers,” Melania Trump said.
The premiere was broadcast simultaneously in 21 theaters nationwide to invited audiences as part of a coordinated rollout. The documentary is set to open on approximately 1,600 screens worldwide, including about 1,500 locations across the United States. After its theatrical run, the documentary will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
During the event, the president also made some important announcements.
Trump said he plans to announce his choice for Federal Reserve chairman on Friday morning.
“Just an outstanding person and a person that won’t be too surprising to people,” Trump said. “A lot of people think that this is somebody that could have been there a few years ago. It’s going to be somebody that is very respected, somebody that’s known to everybody in the financial world. And I think it’s going to be a very good choice. I hope so.”
During the event, he also faced challenging questions.
“He’s asking me a very dangerous question,” Trump joked when asked if he would be the man he is today if he hadn’t met his wife.
“I think she’s really been a great help. She’s done a great job. Very respected, very smart, very measured, very measured—sometimes when I’m not so measured,” Trump said.
Trump’s cabinet members, including Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Education Secretary Linda McMahon, attended the event.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) and several Republican lawmakers were also present.
