The Trump administration has introduced a smartphone app to provide users with updates from the White House and access to the administration.
The app, which launched on March 27, includes a section with press releases from the White House, a photo gallery, and social media posts from several administration official accounts.
In the social media video promoting the app, the White House promises that it will provide news without a filter.
According to the White House announcement, the app is “delivering President Donald J. Trump and his Administration directly to the American people like never before.”
“This new app offers Americans a direct line to the White House—cutting through the noise with unfiltered, real-time updates straight from the source,” the announcement states.
Users will be able to get breaking news alerts, stay abreast of executive actions and other initiatives, and watch live streams of presidential addresses and press briefings.
The Apple app store description also promises “a rich video library featuring speeches, behind-the-scenes moments, and archived content.”
Additionally, users can submit questions, provide feedback, and send messages “directly to President Trump,” according to the description, and the app is designed “for the American people to get direct, unfiltered access to the People’s House.”
In the “get in touch” section of the app, there is a special form to report tips to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to “help keep communities safe,” according to the app.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the app “incredible,” and White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung teased “Easter Eggs sprinkled throughout” the app.
The current administration has created several avenues to promote a free flow of information from Washington to the American people.
“The site lays bare the offending ‘journalists’ and their outlets alongside the actual facts they attempted to bury, twist, or invent,” the White House announcement of the portal said.
“Fully sortable and routinely updated, it ensures no hoax, no anonymously ‘sourced’ fan fiction, and no partisan smear gets memory-holed again.”
The portal also features an “Offender Hall of Shame,” which highlights media outlets the White House claims have lied or published misleading stories. That portal also features a section with tips on stories that could make the offenders list.
