Town of Wallkill Supervisor Race Too Close to Call

George Serrano leads the Town of Wallkill supervisor race by three votes based on fully reported early and Election Day voting data by the Orange County Board of Elections on Nov. 8.

Mr. Serrano, the incumbent Republican supervisor, got 1,872 votes, as opposed to 1,869 by his Democratic councilman challenger, Neil Meyer.

Those totals also include partially reported absentee ballots.

As of 6 p.m. on Nov. 7, more than 200 requested absentee ballots in the Town of Wallkill hadn’t been received by the county Board of Elections office.

Absentee ballots can be mailed out as late as Election Day but must be received by the Board of Elections office by Nov. 14 to be counted.

For the councilman seat in Ward 3, which became open after Mr. Meyer was elected to run for supervisor, Steven Vinella, a Democrat, got 707 votes, compared with 567 votes by Earl Campbell, a Republican.

Incumbent Republican Ward 1 councilman Mark Coyne got 528 votes, as opposed to 381 votes by his Democratic challenger, Jean Day.

Two other councilmen, Eric Valentin and Eric Johnson, faced no challengers in their reelection bids.

Other Local Races

In the open mayoral race in the City of Port Jervis, Republican candidate and former fire chief Dominic Cicalese has a lead of more than 50 votes as of Nov. 8.

He got 864 votes, compared with 809 by Democratic candidate and councilwoman Elizabeth Miller.

About 100 requested absentee ballots in Port Jervis hadn’t been received by the county Board of Elections office as of 6 p.m. on Nov. 7.

In the nearby Town of Deerpark, Christa Hoovler was elected as a new town board member.

As for the Town of Mount Hope, former police chief Paul Rickard faced no challenger in the general election and was elected as the new supervisor on both the Republican and conservative ticket.

Incumbent Republican councilman Christopher Furman was reelected, and Republican candidate Keri Lee Carey was elected as a new board member.
