Tornadoes Pose Another Life-Threatening Risk as Hurricane Laura Makes Landfall

Hurricane Laura reaches extremely dangerous Category 4 strength ahead of anticipated landfall near the Louisiana-Texas state line, and is expected to hit parts of the coast with devastating winds and "unsurvivable storm surge," the National Hurricane Center says. Credit:CNN

In addition to catastrophic storm surge, damaging winds, and heavy rain, Laura will also likely produce several tornadoes and waterspouts.

“Hurricanes and tropical storms that make landfall in the Gulf of Mexico are more likely to produce tornadoes compared to storms in the Atlantic,” explains Brandon Miller, CNN meteorologist.
