Three people were found dead in an apparent double murder and suicide in Ulster County, New York.
Three bodies were found by an apartment complex in Ellenville, prompting the lockdown of nearby schools, on Thursday morning, Jan. 11, according to reports.
Ellenville Police Chief Philip Mattracion described the victims as one female and two males. A weapon was recovered, and police said one of the victims was the shooter.
Mattracion said that the shootings took place at around 9:55 a.m.
Ellenville Central School District officials told the ABC affiliate that all schools were placed on lockdown due to the shooting. Later, the lockdown was lifted.
During the lockdown, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office added that there was “no intruder in any of the Ellenville Central School District buildings,” the Freeman reported.
Video footage shot from the scene showed the city’s Center Street closed off. Police vehicles could be seen around the block.
The town is located about 80 miles north-northwest of New York City and around 26 miles north of Middletown, New York.
