Texas lawmakers pre-filed about two dozen border and immigration bills ahead of the state’s 2025 legislative session regarding securing its border with Mexico without relying on the federal government’s progress in tackling illegal immigration.

With some 11 million illegal immigrants entering the United States under the Biden administration, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the Republican-led Legislature began crafting laws to address what many considered an invasion of the country caused by lax border policies.
