Texas GOP Set to Redraw State’s Congressional Map During Special Session

Some Democrats, including one in an area that may be vulnerable to redistricting efforts, said the tactic may come back to haunt the GOP.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called for a July 21 special session of the state Legislature to discuss efforts to redraw the state’s congressional map to make it more competitive for the GOP.

The Republican governor issued a proclamation on July 9, directing the Legislature convene in Austin for a special session beginning at 12 p.m. on July 21.
