A video shows an alligator being wrangled at a Texas Walmart parking lot.
A customer walking in the parking lot spotted the 8-foot-long reptile walking back to a nearby pond in Aransas Pass, Texas, according to the Aransas Pass Police Department on Thursday. “Officers found this little 8-foot guy trying to sneak out of the pond for an after midnight shop at Walmart this morning,” the department said on Facebook.
In the video, police officers and what appears to be an animal control officer can be seen wrestling the gator to the ground before placing restraints on it.
KIII-TV identified the officials in the video as Officer Allen Mize, who was holding down the gator’s back as Albert Flores, a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, held down the gator’s front. Sgt. David Muniz could be seen taping the alligator’s mouth shut, the station reported.
Officials with Texas Parks and Wildlife were called to help after police discovered the beast, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.
“We have a few alligators, but we have not seen one this big,” Aransas Police police Capt. Lynn Pearce said.
“Nice to see Walmart now has alligator. They really do carry everything,” one Facebook user joked.
“So hot out he was shopping for Gatorade,” another joked on Facebook.
The station reported that the alligator was turned over to the game warden, so that it could be released to a safer location.
