A South Carolina mother was forced to have her arms amputated and other medical procedures after she was mauled by several dogs earlier this week, according to her family.
Kyleen Waltman, 38, was attacked by two pit bulls and a mixed-breed dog while walking on Monday morning, her sister, Sheena Green, told WYFF-TV.
“This is the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen,” Waltman’s other sister Amy Wynne said.
Justin Minor, the owner of the dogs, was arrested Wednesday, said the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office to local media. He was charged with three counts of owning a dangerous animal that attacked and injured a human and other charges.
Video footage of Minor’s arraignment showed the man visibly upset during the court proceeding.
“I’m glad they got him, but as far as charges go, no. I’m not completely satisfied with them, because my sister lost her life three times,” Wynne told WSPA. “She died three times,” Wynne said.
According to a GoFundMe page, her family said that Waltman “has had both arm[s] amputated up to the shoulder and now she had to have her colon removed and now her esophagus may have to be removed.”
“She has a long road ahead of her and will need medical and financial help. Every little bit would help greatly, but please do not feel obligated to donate. Prayers [are] what we need at this moment,” the page said.
Officials told local media that animal control officers now have possession of the three dogs.
Other details about the case weren’t provided by officials.
