The investigation continued April 15 into the crash of a small airplane in the ocean off Rancho Palos Verdes.

The crash was reported about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, roughly 200 yards offshore near the Trump National Golf Club, according to a sergeant at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lomita Station.

Pilot Christopher Krajacic and a dog were aboard the Piper Saratoga aircraft, and both safely swam ashore, where they were found by first responders, the sergeant said.

According to ABC7, citing a Los Angeles County Fire Department source, the crash occurred after the aircraft sustained a “catastrophic mechanical failure.”

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified, and the circumstances were under investigation, ABC7 reported.
