Shakira Donates Part of San Antonio Concert Proceeds to Support Texas Flooding Survivors

The ‘Whenever, Wherever’ singer performed at the Alamodome in San Antonio on July 5.

Grammy-winning singer Shakira performed in San Antonio over the weekend, donating a portion of the concert’s proceeds to those affected by the deadly floodwaters that ravaged the Texas Hill Country region.

“Dear San Antonio, Our hearts and prayers are with those affected by the flood in Central Texas,” the 48-year-old pop star wrote on X ahead of her performance on July 5 at the Alamodome.

The “Whenever, Wherever” singer, who hails from Barranquilla, Colombia, said part of the show’s proceeds would go to Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, a nonprofit and religious organization serving the local area.

“If you would like to join me in donating, please click on the link below,” she said. “Your help is important and appreciated.”

The charity said in a Facebook post earlier that day that it was offering “support and services to those in need” by distributing emergency supplies, including bottled water, blankets, clothing, and hygiene kits.

“We send our prayers to all those who are affected by the recent flooding in our neighboring areas,” the charity said

The flood waters began sweeping across central Texas in the early hours of July 4 after torrential rain caused the rushing waters of the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet in about 45 minutes.

More than 80 people have been confirmed dead in the wake of the flash flooding, which has affected 15 counties, including Kerr, Travis, and Burnet counties.

On Saturday, country star Miranda Lambert took to Instagram to encourage her followers to support animals and pet owners affected by the Texas Hill Country floods.

“I can’t even come up with any words for the loss that everybody’s suffering,” she said in a video.

Alongside the clip, the singer shared a fundraiser for the MuttNation Foundation, a nonprofit organization that she and her mother, Bev Lambert, launched in 2009. As of noon on Monday, the charity had raised more than $14,000 of its $15,000 goal.

The National Football League and its two Texas-based teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans, joined Texas flood relief efforts by contributing a combined $1.5 million to those impacted by the devastating floods.

Walmart, alongside its subsidiary Sam’s Club and its charitable arm, the Walmart Foundation, committed up to $500,000 in grants and in-kind donations to support relief efforts throughout the region.
