The U.S. Secret Service on Monday responded to a social media controversy over the appearance and role of an agent during the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary parade in the nation’s capital.

Initial criticism came from journalist Susan Crabtree, who praised the overall security operation during the June 14 event but took issue with what she called “the odd, casual look” of a female Secret Service agent stationed atop a World War II-era tank nicknamed “Sugar.”
