A House committee on March 9 voted to pass a bill that would bar transgender athletes from competing in women’s and girls’ sports.

In a party-line vote, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce advanced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, H.R. 734., which would amend Title IX to recognize sex as “based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.” Title IX protects against sex discrimination in education.
