The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA) has commenced airdropping millions of oral rabies vaccines (ORV) from planes in several states throughout the Southeast.

In North Carolina, the USDA is working with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to scatter the vaccines in the mountainous forests of the Western North Carolina region, which includes the counties of Buncombe, Haywood, and Transylvania counties, among others.
