Maison Deschamps, a rock climber who goes by the name “Pro-Life Spiderman,” has free-climbed the 60-story, 1,070-foot Salesforce Tower in San Francisco to raise awareness of an abortion doctor accused by pro-life activists of conducting late-term abortions.

“The mission is simple: destroy what is evil and protect what is innocent,” the 22-year-old climber wrote on his Instagram account, in text accompanying a video from the tower.

Dr. Cesare Santangelo is the Washington, D.C., doctor who inspired the protest.

In March, D.C. police took five fetuses from the home of pro-life activist Lauren Handy, of the secular Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU).

In an interview with The Pillar, Handy claimed the fetuses came from the Washington Surgi-Clinic, operated by Santangelo.
Pro-life groups such as Live Action have asserted the fetuses may have been viable, making the abortions illegal.

D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department, however, has so far disagreed.

“Those fetuses were aborted in accordance with D.C. law, so we are not investigating this incident along those lines. There doesn’t seem to be anything criminal in nature right now about that, except for how they got into this house, and so we’ll continue to look at that,” said Ashan Benedict of the D.C. police at a press conference.
“Dr. Cesare Santangelo is not in jail and there is currently no investigation,” Deschamps wrote on his website.

“The goal of this peaceful mission is to spread the word and get Dr. Santangelo put in jail.”

“Pro-Life Spiderman” made his ascent just a day after the leak of a draft decision from the Supreme Court that could overturn Roe v. Wade.

“It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives,” Associate Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the draft, which the Supreme Court has since confirmed to be authentic.

“At approximately 9:21 a.m. officers were flagged down by citizens at a commercial building located on the 400 block of Mission St. regarding a person climbing the building. Officers observed a male on the side of the building several floors up from the street ascending on his own power,” said SF Police Officer Robert Rueca in an emailed statement to The Epoch Times.

Rueca said Deschamps was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after he finished his climb at approximately 10:50 a.m.

Some in the media derided the feat, with the revived Gawker writing, “Pro-Life Activist Tragically Survives Salesforce Tower Free Climb.”

The May 3 event is not Deschamps’ first protest climb.

In 2021, he climbed the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas as a protest against Nevada’s state mask mandate.

“No more mandates, no more masks. People are suffering,” he wrote in an Instagram post at the time.

According to his website, he is a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

“UNLV has a record of a student by that name, who is a senior,” said a UNLV spokesperson.
