Porto’s Bakery to Open in Downtown Disney

One of Southern California’s most popular Cuban bakeries is expected to open in Downtown Disney, taking the place of the former La Brea Bakery, which had reportedly closed all of its cafe locations last week.

Porto’s Bakery will be opening at the Anaheim location, marking its seventh restaurant, but further details on when it would be opened were not released, Disney officials announced in September at the company’s D23 Expo.

Rosa Porto, the incoming bakery’s founder, and her family opened their first storefront on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park back in 1976. She died away in 2019, but is survived by her three children and grandchildren, who operate the locations in Burbank, Glendale, Northridge, Buena Park, West Covina, and Downey, according to the company.

La Brea Bakery’s closure is one of many changes coming to Downtown Disney.

Prior to Porto’s arrival, another restaurant—Earl of Sandwich—will open as a temporary pop-up location sometime next month at the former La Brea Bakery. Though there is no known date for Porto’s, it likely won’t trail far behind.

Other changes are reportedly coming to Downtown Disney, the stores Disney Home and WonderGround, according to Disney officials.

Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen will also soon be closing temporarily while another remodel is underway, once completed it will be renamed the Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio. The west side of the shopping district is also expecting Din Tai Fung—a popular Chinese cuisine restaurant—and the Catal & Uva Bar locations, which have been longtime occupants, to be replaced by a new high end Mexican restaurant, “Paseo and Centrico by Chef Carlos Gaytan,” according to media reports.
