Police in Nevada on Sept. 7 executed search warrants at a residence of an official who was the subject of multiple stories written by an investigative reporter who was recently killed.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to The Epoch Times the execution of warrants related to German's murder on the 7200 block of Bronze Circle, and declined to provide more information. Local outlets reported that a home at which officers were seen belongs to Telles.
Telles is a Democrat who lost a bid for reelection in June's primary. The loss came after German reported that he had an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate and treated workers poorly.
Telles wrote directly to German on Twitter as that article and others came out, including calling German "obsessed" with him and said that his wife caught German going through his trash.
"Looking forward to lying smear piece #4 by @JGermanRJ," Telles wrote on June 18. "I think he's mad that I haven't crawled into a hole and died."
In a letter on his website, Telles said that the articles contained lies and that he had done nothing wrong.
The Clark County Public Administrator's Office did not respond to a request for comment.
Surveillance Images, VideoPolice, meanwhile, have released several surveillance images of a suspect, as well as a short video.
The materials show a person wearing an orange long-sleeved shirt, black pants, black gloves, and white shoes walking on a sidewalk near the scene of the crime. The person is also wearing a wide-brimmed hat, which obscures his or her face.
Police said it appeared the suspect "was potentially casing the area to commit other crimes before the homicide occurred."
The suspect has been linked to an SUV, described as a 2007 to 2014 red or maroon GMC Yukon Denali with chrome handles, a sunroof, and a luggage rack.
“The Review-Journal family is devastated to lose Jeff,” Executive Editor Glenn Cook said in a statement. “He was the gold standard of the news business. It’s hard to imagine what Las Vegas would be like today without his many years of shining a bright light on dark places.”
