Police arrested a 35-year-old convicted felon Dec. 29 after he allegedly kidnapped an 18-year-old woman at gunpoint from a hotel in Santa Ana, California.

Santa Ana Police Department detectives tracked down the suspect—using hotel surveillance footage and witness descriptions—to his residence in Victorville.

“They staked his residence out and then when he left, they pulled him over,” Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told The Epoch Times.

The suspect, Adrian Marcellus Alloway, was taken into custody without incident—but during the arrest, police located a semi-automatic handgun in his possession.

Alloway allegedly kidnapped the victim on Dec. 21 from the La Quinta Inn & Suites, a Wyndham hotel located three miles from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport at 2721 Hotel Terrace, after meeting the victim on the internet.

“They met on social media and agreed to meet somewhere,” Bertagna said.

The victim showed up at the hotel for the meeting with a female friend. When Alloway arrived, he allegedly forced the victim to leave with him at gunpoint, then drove off with the victim in his car to an unknown location.

The victim’s friend, who was left behind, called police to report the kidnapping from the hotel room where they were staying.

About 24 hours later, the victim was able to escape from Alloway and the location where she was being held. She turned herself in at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department station in Victorville.

“He took her to some location, and she got away,” said Bertagna.

Vice and Homicide detectives from the Santa Ana Police Department then interviewed the victim, who cooperated with the investigation.

Alloway was booked for kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bail, according to Orange County Jail records.

The suspect was due for a hearing in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana on Dec. 31, for a pending unrelated case for misdemeanor false personation and driving on a suspended or revoked license due to a DUI.
