Police arrested an intoxicated 56-year-old man for driving a lawn mower on a Florida highway.
Kenneth Burton Alleshouse was driving a red Snapper lawnmower with a 12-pack of Budweiser beer, according to Port St. Lucie police.
The officers administered a blood-alcohol content (BAC) test and said that Alleshouse sampled a BAC three times the legal limit.
Police booked Alleshouse into the Port St. Lucie County Jail.
This isn’t the first time that police in Florida had made an odd arrest for driving under the influence.
Polk County sheriff’s deputies arrested 53-year-old Donna Byrne for riding a horse while drunk.
“Well, this in Polk County. You can get a DUI in a car, in a truck or on a horse,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
Deputies who arrived at the scene noted that the woman smelled of alcohol, had red, watery eyes and staggered. Byrne had a BAC of .161, twice Florida’s legal limit of 0.08.
“Ms. Byrne was obviously not in any condition to be on the road,” said Judd. “She not only put herself and the horse in danger but also anyone who was driving on the road, which is typically very busy.”
The deputies took Bo Duke to the Polk County Sheriff’s Animal Control livestock facility.
The horse’s owner was booked into Polk County Jail. Byrne was charged with a DUI, animal neglect, and failing to provide adequate protection for the horse.
“The horse was totally sober, but was neglected,” said Judd. “The horse was not happy about this at all. He said ’she was baaaaaaad.'”
Defense attorneys said that Florida DUI law states that a person must be driving a vehicle to receive a DUI.
