A person who was suspected of being armed with a knife was shot and killed on Friday at the entrance to San Diego’s Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) by military base personnel, according to local reports.
Guards warned the car to stop, at which point the driver emerged from the car, allegedly holding a knife, and approached the guards at the gate with “hostile intent.”
The person was shot after he ignored several commands to stop, according to the statement.
Emergency services responded, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The person’s identity has not been made public.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) will handle the investigation into the fatal shooting, because it took place on federal property.
