Orange County firefighters went the extra mile when they finished mowing 92-year-old Bob Hallet’s lawn in Westminster after he collapsed in the middle of the task.
According to the caption of the video posted to Instagram, the firefighters told Morris: “He shouldn’t have to worry about it when he comes home.”
“We just did an interview with the family, and the daughter said that he had a good chuckle about it and he appreciated it, but he [would] rather do his own lawn because that’s what keeps him young,” Orange County Fire Authority Captain Paul Holaday told The Epoch Times.
Holaday noted that the neighborhood is a tight-knit community, and they were very thankful to the fire crew who stayed to help finish the yard.
He said the fire crew always tries to go above and beyond when they can, and that “it’s nice for the public to see the good deeds from time to time,” but they certainly don’t do it for the applause or appreciation.
“This happens actually quite a bit, maybe not specifically mowing lawns, but our firefighters always try to just go above and beyond and find that next thing to do,” he said.
“If somebody falls while loading the groceries, they will bring the groceries in the house. If they’re cooking, we make sure the stove is off and the stuff is put away. Feeding the dog, feeding the cats before we take the patient to hospital. These are things that we’re trained to do and that our crews do routinely.”
