SANTA ANA, Calif.—Police were looking for two suspects on Sept. 11 who shot and killed a man at a Santa Ana gas station on Sept. 10 in an apparent gang-related attack.

Angel Fregoso, 31, of Santa Ana, was shot as he and a woman acquaintance were about to drive away from the Mobil station at 1465 S. Main St., said Santa Ana Officer Natalie Garcia, a spokeswoman for the police. Officers were dispatched at 2:50 a.m. Sunday on a shots-fired call, Ms. Garcia said.

The woman with Mr. Fregoso drove to the gas station, and when they got out they switched places, Ms. Garcia said. As they were about to drive away, a gunman with another suspect approached them and asked them what gang they were from, Ms. Garcia said.

Mr. Fregoso was shot in the head, Ms. Garcia said.

Detectives from the department’s homicide section urged anyone with information about the death to call them at 714-245-8390. Orange County Crime Stoppers will accept anonymous tips at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
