LOS ANGELES—A 52-year-old man was found dead April 28 inside a century-old home that caught fire in the Florence area of Los Angeles.

The blaze inside the 101-year-old residence at 140 E. 71st St. was reported at 6:18 p.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Firefighters restricted the flames to one room in the house, Mr. Humphrey said. There were no functional smoke alarms in the home, he said.

The deceased’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, Mr. Humphrey said. A description of the person was not immediately available.

The department dispatched 40 firefighters, who knocked down the flames in under 15 minutes, he said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
