A man attacked a St. Mary’s College nursing student, causing potentially life-threatening injuries on Jan. 23.
South Bend police officers provided first aid which doctors say kept the victim alive until paramedics came. The student was transported to the hospital where she is in stable condition, the school said in a statement.
The attack occurred around 10 a.m. at Broadway Christian Paris United Methodist Church on 1412 Carroll St., South Bend, Indiana.
Two witnesses pointed out the attacker to police officers who made the arrest. Police also recovered what they believe is the weapon used in the attack.
According to WNDU, the school’s statement said, in part, “At approximately 10 a.m. today, January 23, 2018, a student was stabbed off campus while serving as part of a longstanding community nursing placement. The student is receiving treatment.
“Many of our students serve at a variety of community organizations planned to meet health needs for individuals and the community as aligned with the mission of the College.”
