Regardless of which party controls the House of Representatives beginning in January, the top Democrat on the powerful House Oversight and Reform Committee may well come from a district whose voters are mostly federal workers and contractors.

Two of the three Democrats who quickly threw their hats into the ring following Rep. Carolyn Maloney’s (D-N.Y.) loss in an Aug. 23 Democratic primary to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) currently represent suburban Washington districts with heavy concentrations of career civil servants and government contractors.
