One person has died and another was seriously injured after a midair helicopter collision occurred in New Jersey, a spokesperson from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told the Epoch Times on Dec. 28.
The crash, which involved an Enstrom 280C helicopter and an Enstrom F-28A helicopter, happened around 11:25 a.m. on Dec. 28 over the Hammonton Municipal Airport, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA.
Video filmed by an eyewitness showed one of the helicopters spinning out of control before it crashed into the ground near the airport.
It’s not clear if one of the aircraft was spinning in a freefall before or after the mid-air crash.
Both helicopters were photographed at the crash site in multiple pieces, with the white chopper appearing to have had more burnt debris.
Fire crews responded to the scene to put out the flames.
Only a pilot was on board each of the aircraft when the choppers collided near the small town located 35 miles southeast of Philadelphia.
The pilot of the second helicopter was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash, and the FAA plans to share a preliminary accident report this week.
