New Details Released in Death of 10-Year-Old Colorado Girl

An autopsy has revealed new details in the killing of 10-year-old Colorado girl, Kiaya Campbell, it was reported this week.

Campbell, of Thornton, was reported missing in June---about a day before her body was discovered, 9News reported.

She suffered blunt force trauma, which led to her death, the autopsy report, released Oct. 11, said. The autopsy found that the girl suffered a skull fracture.

A 15-year-old, Aiden Zellmer, was arrested two days after she was found. He’s facing two counts of first-degree murder and is slated to appear in court later this month. It’s unclear yet if he’ll be tried as an adult.

Zellmer had lived in the same house as Kiaya, as his mother was in a relationship with the girl’s father, CBS Denver reported. He was the last person who was seen with the girl when the two walked into a shopping center together. He told cops that they had been “separated in the rain,” according to previous reports.

The local district attorney’s office is working to charge the teen as an adult.

The initial missing persons report triggered a massive search for Kiaya, which ended in the late afternoon when a man found her body in a “natural area” about a mile east of where she was reported to have gone missing, 9News reported.
