One detainee is dead and two others critically injured after a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas on Sept. 24, according to authorities.
The suspect also died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooter opened fire from a nearby rooftop.
No law enforcement officials were injured in the incident, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said in a press conference later on Sept. 24.
The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed by officials.
“We can tell you that he was on an elevated rooftop, that he shot into a building—into a carport area, that he was targeting ICE based on what we’ve seen so far as evidence in this case,” Noem said.
She didn’t disclose any additional details about the suspect.
“The Brave Men and Women of ICE are just trying to do their jobs, and remove the ‘WORST of the WORST’ Criminals out of our Country, but they are facing an unprecedented increase in threats, violence, and attacks by Deranged Radical Leftists,” Trump said.
Rounds found near the suspect, who was found dead when officials arrived, contained messages that were “anti-ICE in nature,” FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas office Joe Rothrock said during the press conference.
The attack was an act of “targeted violence,” Rothrock said.
Johnson urged people to pray in response to the incident.
“But maybe even more to the point, we are a country and a city that needs prayer,” Johnson said at the press event. “I’m going to ask you all to join me also in praying for this city, that we can come together at a time like this, and that we can be there for one another the way we always have.
“[Prayer will] help us all get through this very difficult time—not just in our city, but in our country.”
The incident was initially confirmed by Noem, who said the suspect in the shooting died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“[The suspected shooter] is deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
“We have three individuals that are down at this time. We’re not sure on their condition. They’ve been taken to the hospital,” Lyons said.
Later on Wednesday, the Homeland Security Department said it was responding to the shooting with increased security nationwide.
This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities.

Local Dallas media outlets reported that the shooting occurred at a Dallas field office located at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway. Traffic camera footage from the Texas Department of Transportation, seen by The Epoch Times, showed a significant law enforcement presence near the ICE building.
“I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families,” he said.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE officials have said that ICE agents have faced a large increase in assaults this year.
“When our heroic law enforcement officers conduct operations, they clearly identify themselves as law enforcement while wearing masks to protect themselves from being targeted by highly sophisticated gangs like Tren de Aragua and MS-13, criminal rings, murderers, and rapists,” the agency stated.
“Our officers also wear vests marked with ICE/ERO or Homeland Security and are flanked by vehicles marked with the name of the department.”
The shooting on Sept. 24 is the third time that ICE or Customs and Border Protection officials have been targeted in Texas in 2025.
At the Prairieland Detention Facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4, about a dozen assailants who were equipped with weapons and tactical gear attacked ICE officials. A local law enforcement officer was injured during the process, according to DHS.
