The Michigan Supreme Court has rejected an attempt to remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot based on a reading of the insurrection clause within the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment.

The ruling, in an order posted on Dec. 27, starkly contrasts with a decision handed down last week by the Colorado Supreme Court that disqualified the former president from serving as president and removed him from the Colorado primary ballot; a 4–3 majority of judges argued that he was linked to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach.
