Nearly half of the kiosks set up by the IRS to enable taxpayers to file tax returns and complete other services were inoperable or had an unknown status, a watchdog said in a new report.

Of the 100 kiosks located across 37 taxpayer assistance centers, 40 were not operable, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration said in the report released on Aug. 8.
