Man Fatally Shot by Police During Traffic Stop in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A suspect was shot and killed by a police officer in Santa Ana during a traffic stop, authorities said Nov. 17.

The shooting happened around 2:05 p.m. Nov. 16 in the 100 block of South McClay Street, according to Sgt. Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department.

Officers stopped a vehicle with three men inside and during the traffic stop they encountered one of the men with a handgun and the officers opened fire, police said.

The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to his upper torso and paramedics with Orange County Fire Authority took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Lopez said.

The other two men and the officers were not injured during the shooting.
