The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) identified a 31-year-old man Oct. 24 suspected of lighting an American flag on fire on a flagpole at a Topanga-area home.

On Monday at about 10:45 p.m., Los Angeles Police detectives arrested Kevin Miller, 31, on an arson charge, according to the LAPD. His bail was set at $250,000, according to police and he was booked at the Van Nuys Jail.

Police had asked for the public’s help in catching a suspect seen at about 8 p.m. Oct. 21 lighting a flag on fire at a home on the 23000 block of Welby Way in the Topanga area, located west of Los Angeles near the coastal city of Malibu.

At about 8 p.m. police had responded to a report of arson at the property.

According to authorities, a suspect walked onto the victim’s property and ignited the American flag attached to the residence by a flagpole.

The suspect fled from the location on foot, police reported.

According to police, Mr. Miller had no prior arrests for arson and it has been determined the alleged arson was not motivated by hate.

The case will be referred to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office for filing consideration.
