Concerns about the purchase of U.S. agricultural land by the Chinese regime have grown in Congress and state capitals around the country. State legislators in Louisiana are some of the latest to confront the issue.
HB238 was introduced earlier this year to bar the sale of Louisiana agricultural land to foreign adversaries, including China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. A similar bill passed overwhelmingly in the Louisiana legislature last year—but then-Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards vetoed it. While the House voted to override the veto, the Senate did not.
