COMPTON, Calif.—A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department dog was recovering and “resting comfortably” April 18 after being shot by an assault suspect during a search in Compton.

“During the course of the search, the suspect discharged his firearm, which struck K9 ‘Kjeld’ resulting in an injury,” according to a social media post by the sheriff’s department. “Fortunately, K9 Kjeld, who was equipped with a bulletproof vest, underwent successful treatment and has since been discharged from veterinary care.”
