Grammy award-winning violinist Gil Shaham will perform alongside the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) in a virtual extravaganza March 26.
As part of the LACO’s Close Quarters premium streaming series, audience members can take in a night of classical music performances set to compelling visual elements.
“Gil Shaham’s virtuosic artistry, musical creativity and the unabashed joy he projects in his performances and recordings inspire audiences around the globe,” LACO executive director Ben Cadwallader, said in a statement.
“We are particularly pleased to present his LACO debut in the intimate setting of LACO Close Quarters captured through the remarkable camera lens of cinematographer Michael Elias Thomas.”
In the latest episode, “Gil Shaham Plays Boulogne,” a pre-concert Zoom conversation will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the premiered live event at 6:30 p.m.
The legendary violinist makes his LACO debut as a guest soloist for the Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges Violin Concerto No. 9 and Arvo Part’s Fratres.
Boulogne’s violin concerto is a 20-minute performance, and Arvo Part’s Fratres is 11 minutes.
Each episode of Close Quarters runs about an hour long, based directly on the LACO’s musical performance.
The Close Quarters series is the succeeding production of LACO’s SummerFest series, which featured five digital chamber music concerts, attracting nearly 250,000 views.
Close Quarters episodes premiere on Fridays. Subsequent dates include: April 9 and 23, May 7 and 21, and June 4.
Earlier this month, Shaham released his first solo recording in several years, featuring Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and the Brahms Violin Concerto.
Shaham is an Illinois-born, Israel-raised violinist who has recorded more than two dozen concerto and solo CDs.
