LOS ANGELES (CNS)—Suspended Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar was indicted July 30 by a federal grand jury on 34 counts alleging he ran a pay-to-play scheme in which developers were shaken down for cash bribes and campaign donations in exchange for his help getting high-rise projects through the city’s approval process.

The indictment incorporates allegations made in last month’s criminal complaint that charged Huizar, 51, of Boyle Heights, with one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
