House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Thursday sketched out the Democrats’ fall agenda as Congress returned from its August recess, placing health care, public safety, redistricting, and corruption at the core of the caucus’s message heading into a busy September.

Jeffries accused Republicans of failing to address rising costs and said Democrats remain “completely united” in their focus on lowering expenses, protecting health care, and “cleaning up corruption in this town.” He pointed repeatedly to Republicans’ signature legislation, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump in July, referring to it as the “one big, ugly bill” and as the source of higher costs and weaker protections.
