An illegal immigrant from El Salvador faces multiple felony charges in Louisiana after allegedly murdering his girlfriend and her sister, and wounding two of his siblings, with knives.
Urias then allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Elizabeth Tornabene, to death, before stabbing his own sister, wounding her critically.
“I looked him in his eyes. He looked like the devil,” the homeowner told the outlet.
The sheriff’s office said Urias was taken into custody after police confronted him at the nearby residence.
“Officers located Urias in the garage, ordered him to drop the knives, and he surrendered to police,” SJSO stated.
“This was a vicious attack,” St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Michael Tregre told NOLA.com. “This is probably the top, worst that I’ve seen in my 32 years of law enforcement.”
Urias has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
“Urias was previously encountered by the U.S. Border Patrol in March 2012 near Hidalgo, Texas, after illegally entering the U.S.,” Cox told the outlet. “He was issued a Notice to Appear and later released to a sponsor in May 2012. Due to policies in place at that time applicable to unaccompanied minors, his immigration proceedings were administratively closed on Sep. 29, 2016.”
Cox told the outlet that ICE would seek to take Urias into its custody if he was released from criminal custody and that the agency would work on getting him deported.
Authorities have not announced a motive for the attack.
