Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested an illegal immigrant in Connecticut wanted for allegedly killing a Mexican law enforcement officer.

“Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Orlando Diaz-Cebada, an undocumented criminal from Mexico wanted for the murder of a law enforcement officer in his home country,” ICE said in a statement on June 24.

The arrest was made on June 12 but was not announced until June 24.

Diaz-Cebada remains in ICE custody awaiting deportation proceedings.

According to Mexican authorities, Diaz-Cebada is known as “El Leches.” He is a member of the Los Pochos gang, known for trafficking drugs for the Sinaloa cartel, DHS said.

According to the arrest warrant, Diaz-Cebada was allegedly responsible for a beating that resulted in the death of a government official in Mexico.

The U.S. Border Patrol deported Diaz-Cebada on May 22, 2024, after he had entered the United States illegally, and removed him again two days later as he was caught reentering illegally, DHS said.

For the third time, Diaz-Cebada illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and location without being inspected, admitted, or released on parole by a U.S. immigration official, until his arrest by ICE and the FBI.

“Thanks to our brave ICE law enforcement and federal partners, this criminal illegal alien fugitive wanted for murdering a law enforcement official in Mexico is off America’s streets. This heinous murderer attempted to evade justice by hiding out in Connecticut,” DHS Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in the statement.

“These are the types of barbaric criminal illegal aliens our brave ICE law enforcement risks their lives every day to arrest. America is no longer a safe haven for violent criminals.”

Connecticut is a sanctuary state. Sanctuary states obstruct federal officers from enforcing federal immigration law by offering protection to illegal immigrants.

“If you are a criminal illegal alien considering entering America illegally, don’t even think about it,“ McLaughlin said after Diaz-Cebada’s arrest. ”If you come here and break our laws, we will hunt you down. Criminals are not welcome in the United States.”
