ICE Arrests Illegal Immigrant Trucker With ‘No Name’ on Driver’s Licence
The Indian national, who entered the United States illegally in 2023, was stopped on I-40 with a commercial driver’s license that listed no full legal name.
Federal officials have announced the arrest of an illegal immigrant identified as Anmol Anmol, who was allegedly operating an 18-wheeler while holding a New York commercial driver’s license issued under the designation “No Name Given Anmol.”
Anmol, an Indian national who entered the United States illegally in 2023, was arrested during a routine inspection at a truck scale on the I-40 in late September, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Oct. 10. His arrest comes amid heightened federal efforts to remove illegal immigrants operating heavy commercial vehicles—a public safety risk DHS officials say urgently needs to be addressed.
“Allowing illegal aliens to obtain commercial driver’s licenses to operate 18-wheelers and transport hazardous materials on America’s roads is reckless and incredibly dangerous,” Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement.
“New York is not only failing to check if applicants applying to drive 18-wheelers are U.S. citizens but even failing to obtain the full legal names of individuals they are issuing commercial drivers’ licenses to. DHS is working with our state and local partners to get illegal alien truck drivers who often don’t know basic traffic laws off our highways.”
The case of Anmol Anmol was part of a broader three-day enforcement sweep along I-40 conducted in Oklahoma between Sept. 22 and Sept. 25, during which 120 illegal immigrants were arrested, including 91 found driving commercial trucks with commercial driver’s licenses. The operation uncovered prior convictions among detainees ranging from DUI and human smuggling to drug trafficking and illegal reentry.
“Illegal aliens have no business operating 18 wheelers on America’s highways,“ ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan said in a statement. ”Our roads are now safer with these illegal aliens no longer behind the wheel.”
The arrests follow a series of high-profile crashes involving foreign national truck drivers, including Harjinder Singh, who is facing vehicular homicide charges in Florida arising from his involvement in an accident that resulted in three deaths, and who failed an English-language proficiency test following his arrest. In California, Marcus Coleman, whose 5-year-old daughter was critically injured in a collision with an illegal immigrant trucker, has called for stricter licensing standards.
“My daughter and family’s lives have been forever changed by the injuries and car crash that an illegal alien driving an 18-wheeler caused,” Coleman said in a statement. “I’m proud to see ICE officers working together with highway patrol across the U.S. to protect our roads from criminal illegal aliens who pose a danger to Americans.”
The handling of commercial licensing for non-citizens has come under increased scrutiny. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently warned California, Washington state, and New Mexico that they could face cuts to federal highway safety funding if they fail to enforce English-language requirements for commercial drivers, as mandated under an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in April.
