Historic Drop in National Reading, Math Scores Since Adoption of Common Core: Study

Reading and math scores among American students have seen “historic declines” since the adoption of the Common Core Curriculum Standards a decade ago, according to a report published Monday by Boston-based conservative think tank Pioneer Institute.
In his study titled “The Common Core Debacle,” education policy researcher Theodor Rebarber suggested that despite Common Core’s goal of improving the international competitiveness of American students in math, the skills of average and lower performing American students have dropped in both math and reading, and have continued to fall behind international peers.
