The FBI Phoenix Field Office is investigating shots fired at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) administration building on July 14.

The incident was reported Tuesday afternoon at the Enforcement and Removal Operations Building on North Central Avenue in Phoenix.

According to the FBI, one or more unidentified individuals fired several rounds that struck the building’s exterior. No injuries were reported.

“Because this is an ongoing investigation, no further details or updates will be available,” the FBI said in a statement.

Authorities did not provide details on how the shooting occurred when contacted by The Epoch Times.

“There is no update in the case,” an FBI Phoenix Field Office spokesperson said in an email.

The ICE Phoenix Field Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Epoch Times.

The FBI is seeking information from the public in connection with the shooting.

“The FBI relies significantly on community cooperation,” the agency said.

The FBI asks anyone with information or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area of North Central Avenue on Tuesday afternoon to call its toll-free tip line at 800-225-5324. Tips may also be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov.

The incident follows two ICE-involved shootings during traffic stops in July which killed Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, in Houston, and Joan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, 25, of Colombia, in Biddeford, Maine.

According to an X post from the Department of Homeland Security, Araujo “rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to follow multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense.”

Emergency services were contacted, and Araujo later died at the hospital.

Guerrero, according to an X post from DHS, departed from a residence ICE was surveying as the last known location of an illegal immigrant with an order to be removed. ICE attempted to stop the vehicle, but Guerrero attempted “to flee the scene and, fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon,” striking him, DHS stated.

Emergency services were contacted, and Guerrero died from his injuries.

Both incidents prompted stern rebukes by some Democratic lawmakers regarding immigration enforcement policy.

On July 13, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) released a statement calling for investigations into the shootings.

“More than one instance of an innocent person being shot by ICE or [Customs and Border Protection] is too many,” Schneider said.

“To make matters worse, there have been far too many instances of false or incomplete official reports covering up the actions by ICE and CBP officers.”

On July 15, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that ICE should resume using traffic stops as an enforcement tool, reversing a temporary pause.

“The men and women of ICE are doing a Great job, one that has to be done,” Trump wrote.

“We must be strong, tough, and smart, and we Cannot give up on one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, The Traffic Stop!”

The latest incident in Phoenix appears to reflect growing tensions surrounding the government’s immigration enforcement efforts.

This year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reported 436 assaults on officers, up from 388 in 2025.

The agency reported 363 assaults in 2024 and 474 in 2023.
