WASHINGTON—Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) announced on Jan. 27 that he will retire from Congress, bringing an end to a nearly two-decade career on Capitol Hill.

In a statement, Buchanan said he would not seek re-election after 19 years serving Southwest Florida in the House of Representatives. His announcement added to the growing list of retirements in the House as Republicans looked to maintain their majority in November.
