A Kansas City, Missouri, woman who had been wanted for nearly six years for murder was arrested on April 15, less than 24 hours after the FBI placed her on its most exclusive fugitive list and offered a $1 million reward.
KaShawn N. Roper, 50, was arrested in High Springs, Florida, just one day after being added to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list.
Officers pulled over a vehicle on Main Street at 10:21 a.m. on April 15 after receiving information that the subject was connected to an active federal fugitive investigation. The arrest was made without incident.
The High Springs Police Department made the arrest with help from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service. Alachua County Jail records indicate that Roper was booked just after noon on April 15. No bond has been set, and no court date has been scheduled.
“This outcome reflects the importance of coordinated efforts, shared intelligence and mutual trust in protecting our communities. We are especially proud of the professionalism and vigilance demonstrated by our [High Springs Police Department] officers during a routine traffic stop.”
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the arrest.
“That’s EIGHT of the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted caught in just over a year under President [Donald] Trump,” Patel said in a post on X. ”Exactly DOUBLE the number caught the previous four years combined.”
Kansas City Missouri Police Department Chief Stacey Graves said in an April 15 statement that Roper’s arrest is a testament to the strength and connectivity of American law enforcement.
“I am proud of the great work of all law enforcement involved, which culminated in the swift capture of Roper,” she said. “Furthermore, I am thankful for the longstanding partnership between the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department and the FBI.”
Roper faces charges in Missouri of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon, along with a federal charge for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
On Aug. 23, 2020, Roper allegedly fired multiple shots at a car during an altercation, killing 23-year-old Jazmyn Henrion and wounding another woman. Roper was charged on Sept. 10, 2020, with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon in Jackson County, Missouri, and a state warrant was issued for her arrest. A federal arrest warrant followed in July 2021 after she was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
