Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is facing attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting at a Miami amateur boxing event in May.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by The Epoch Times, the 36-year-old is wanted for one count of attempted second-degree murder in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

The warrant provided by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office indicates the June 11 charge carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence, up to $10,000 bond, and for Brown to remain under house arrest until trial.

On May 16, Brown was detained by Florida Highway Patrol officers after authorities responded to reports of shots fired outside of the boxing match, hosted by online streamer Adin Ross.

One patrol lieutenant working off-duty for the event observed Brown outside the venue engaging in a physical altercation with a male later identified as 41-year-old Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, according to court records.

Several patrons identified Brown as the shooter, although at the time of the incident, police said he was not armed.

Officers said they located two spent shell casings and an empty gun holster at the scene and released Brown upon further investigation.

The following day, Brown took to social media to defend his innocence, claiming he was the victim in the situation and is seeking legal action as a result.

“Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” he wrote on X at the time.
“Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

Authorities combed through security footage along with witness cellphone video from the incident, confirming a physical altercation occurred, which allegedly included Brown and Nantambu.

The footage allegedly shows Brown retrieving a firearm from a security staff member who attempted to intervene and advancing towards Nantambu.

According to the warrant, the cellphone video then captures the sound of two gunshots. Later, Nantambu identified Brown as the shooter in a May 21 interview with police, documents say.

Nantambu said that one of the fired bullets possibly grazed him, according to the warrant. He told police that he had known Brown since 2022.

The warrant does not list any legal representation for Brown as of yet. The Epoch Times has reached out to his agent and the Miami Police Department for comment but has not heard back by the time of publication.

From 2010 to his retirement in 2021, Brown spent the majority of his 12-season career playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2019, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders, but had his contract voided before the start of the season.

His final three seasons were spent playing with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was released by the Patriots in 2019 after playing one game pending sexual misconduct allegations, before signing with the Buccaneers as a free agent in 2020.
