President Donald Trump nominated a former federal prosecutor who is now a partner in a corporate law firm in San Francisco as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California on August 16.

David Anderson, 55, a partner in the San Francisco office of Chicago-based Sidley Austin LLP, must be approved by the U.S. Senate before taking office. The Northern California U.S. attorney supervises 135 federal lawyers in civil and criminal cases concerning the U.S. government in a district that encompasses the Bay Area and coastal Northern California to the Oregon border.
