Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Marquette Street in Spring Hill, Florida, just before 5 a.m. on Oct. 11 where a shooting had taken place.

When deputies arrived, they found two unidentified adult victims with gunshot wounds. One victim had died on scene. The second victim, who was transported to a nearby hospital, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The shooter or shooters, whose identity is still unknown, remains at large.

It is also unknown whether the suspect is male or female, and whether or not they fled the scene on foot or in a vehicle.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the shooting began as a Home Invasion.

Home invasions, the Sheriff’s Department advised, are not typically a random act, but rather a targeted act of violence.

Residents in the area have been asked to review any surveillance video footage they may have between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. If they observe any suspicious individuals or vehicles in the area during that timeframe, they are asked to contact the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office at 352-754-6830 and ask for a “Major Case” detective.

Those who believe they have information pertaining to the incident are asked to immediately contact either the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.

Additional information will be released as it is gathered and verified.
